There are many emerging trends in technology, and they all have the potential to change the way we handle education, business, and participation within local and global communities. One of the largest and most powerful emerging trends to date is known as the Internet of Things, or IoT.

With IoT, the internet is expanding its capabilities in a huge way. It isn't just person-to-person communication anymore. It's person-to-object (aka, "thing"), object-to-person, and even object-to-object. That's right -- machines and devices are now able to use the internet to sense and transmit information to each other and make changes to the physical world based on that information. The lines between the digital and physical world are beginning to disappear, and that integration means big things for industry, culture, and education.
